Recently one of my clients described her healing session as "As good as an hour on the beach and a lot less
hassle to get there." According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), Energy therapy
involves the use of various types of energy fields. In general, the goal is to bring energy into the person or balance
the energy within the person. This usually creates a state of sublime relaxation. How long does it last? It depends on the
person and their attitude, lifestyle and habits.
What
is Healing Touch?
Healing Touch is a non-invasive
therapy classified by the National Institutes of Health as a “biofield” therapy because its effects are thought
to be due to manipulation of energy fields around the body. This therapy is a Holistic Therapy and can be used as an
adjunct to medical treatment. Treatments include light touch on specific points on the body as well as around the body, with
the goal of restoring and balancing energy and vitality, increasing emotional well-being and supporting the body’s ability
to heal.
Healing Touch was developed as a touch therapy program by Janet Mentgen,
a nurse who used energy-based care in her practice in Colorado since 1980. Mentgen and some of her colleagues developed
a training program that incorporated the techniques of many well-known healers, as well as concepts borrowed from ancient
shamanic and aboriginal healing traditions.
I have chosen to study these Healing Techniques with ISHA (Institute of Spiritual Healing
and Aromatherapy) because prayer and anointing is used as well as the Energetic Modalities.
